Wichita County is in the heart of the Texoma region which covers counties north and south of the Red River.  The population is 132,047 people according to the 2013 US Census.  The county seat is the city of Wichita Falls which is located approximately 2 hours north west of Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and 2 hours southwest from Oklahoma City.  Wichita County has a land area of 606 square miles with a population density of 209 people/square mile as of the census of 2010.

Wichita Falls is the home to Sheppard Air Force Base which is the largest technical training base in the Air Force.  Students come to Sheppard AFB after basic training to obtain their initial qualifications for their career field including air craft maintenance, communication, engineering and more.  Sheppard AFB is also home to a large international contingent with the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) program.  In Wichita Falls you can enjoy the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra at Memorial Auditorium, the Ballet, or the annual Ranch Round Up, rodeo, annual Texas/Oklahoma Fair and many other activities.  Active enthusiasts travel to Wichita County from all over the country and world for the annual Hotter than Hell 100 bicycle race every Summer.

 

Cost of living is among the lowest in the nation and commute times to work are generally under 30 minutes no matter where you live or work in the county.

Wichita County also features the city of Burkburnett, which was nicknamed Boomtown during the early 20th Century oil boom and is located 20 miles north of Sheppard AFB.  Burkburnett has a population of approximately 10,000 people is a close knit community where you can find affordable housing if you’re looking for a house in the city or if you would like to stretch out on acreage.

Iowa Park is also popular with a population of approximately 6,000 and is located on Hwy 287 only 15 minutes west of downtown Wichita Falls.  Iowa Park also has many properties with acreage.
